Got my last track day in before the car goes away for winter storage.
That sucks that you gotta park it for the winter. Here in SoCal, it doesn’t snow, just gets chilly. I love the cold air, though—it makes the engine sound so much louder.

I actually enjoy having seasons. Our winters are tough, but the summers make up for it. It’s a good balance, and I wouldn’t trade it.
What kind of brakes are you running?

I’ve got stock calipers, drilled Brembo rotors, and Hawk HP Plus pads.

Did you upgrade to braided lines or switch to Motul 600? I had some brake fade at my last track event and was thinking about changing my lines. My setup is similar: slotted rotors, HP Plus pads, and Motul 600. Putnam Park was a blast, but slowing down for Turn 1 was rough.
@GTGreg
Braided lines are going in this winter. I’m already using high-temp brake fluid, which helped. I only noticed slight fade near the end of the event, but it wasn’t too bad on this technical course. The suspension also helped a lot by keeping the car stable and consistent.
@Derrick
What suspension setup are you running? Your car looks like it has way less body roll than stock.

It’s the Cortex Watts-link street kit with JRI coilovers and custom springs to handle the extra front weight from the GT500. I’ve had this setup for about 60,000 kilometers, and it’s been my favorite mod so far.
@Derrick
That’s a great setup!

Thanks, I really appreciate it!

Who made your springs? Was it hard to find the right rates? Options for these older Shelbys are getting scarce.

I worked with Cortex. They already had experience with the weight of the 2011-2012 GT500 front end, so when I picked my coilovers, they recommended specific spring rates for the front and rear.
@Derrick
Thanks for the info!

I’ve got 6-pot brakes on my ‘13, but I think softer tires and braided lines might be my next move. Are you running a staggered setup?

Still staggered for now, but I’m planning to go square with 19x11 wheels, extended studs, and 200-rated tires next season. I’ll also be upgrading the diff because the stock LSD is really struggling, even with fresh fluid.
@Derrick
I use a square setup for track days and staggered for street. Right now, I’m on 19x10 with 295/30/19 tires.

How do you like the square setup for the track? I’m planning to run 295s too with about -2 degrees of front camber. Right now, I’m at -1.5.
@Derrick
I’ve never run staggered to compare, but my car felt great. It was balanced and predictable. Turn 1 at Putnam was tricky, though, and I think softer tires would’ve helped. I’m currently at -1.7 camber up front.
@GTGreg
That’s helpful! I had a pro driver ride along for a few laps, and he suggested similar changes—more front tire and camber, plus a better diff for corner exits. I’m currently on 275s up front and 295s in the rear.
