Not relying on Phone as a Key anymore

So I decided to stop carrying my physical key and rely on my phone. Big mistake. I was out with my family, snow was coming down, and when we got back to the car, it didn’t detect the phone as a key. I tried resetting Bluetooth, WiFi, and even the phone itself, but nothing worked. I didn’t remember the backup password either, so we were stuck. I had to Uber home, grab the key, and come back to get us moving. Lesson learned: I’ll never leave the key behind again. Also, I’ve set the backup password now and won’t forget it.

Always set and memorize your door code and backup start code. Phones and keys fail, but the backup systems are there for a reason.

I had the same issue yesterday with my '23. Even my backup code didn’t work, so I had to get someone to bring me the key. I’m never leaving without it again.

My Samsung phone’s PAAK stopped working once, and the password failed too. It kept saying ‘network error.’

@Hunter
Sounds like something to get checked out. My backup codes always worked instantly, and it sent me an email afterward saying the code was used.

I’ve had issues where the on-screen keyboard for entering the code wouldn’t pop up. I had to turn off the car and wait 15 minutes before trying again. It’s frustrating and not reliable.

@Beckett
I’m in a '23, so maybe it’s an issue with the '21s. Hopefully, Ford has addressed it by now.

@Beckett
Mine’s a '24, but I park in an underground garage. Maybe the lack of service affects it?

I keep a fob in a Faraday bag hidden in the car. As long as my door code works, I’m good.

That’s a solid plan. Just make sure you know your door code.

This happened to me, but I used the FordPass app to unlock the car and it worked fine.

I tried that, but it didn’t work for me.

Might be an issue with your modem or connectivity.

I’ve never had PAAK fail, but I was worried about my phone dying, so I set up backup codes and practiced using them. They’ve saved me once.

I rely on PAAK but always have my door code and backup start code memorized. If something goes wrong, I’m covered.

I didn’t even know about the codes until this happened. I’ve set them up now.

@Garland
Smart move. Backup codes are a must, especially if your phone gets lost or broken.

I set a door code once and then forgot it…

Same here. Why didn’t I write it down?

My husband decided a road trip was the perfect time to leave the key at home. We were three states away when PAAK failed. I had to drive hours to bring him the key.
