Frustrations with Wind Noise and Charging Speed

I’ve had my Mach-E for almost two years now, and while I love the car overall, two things really bug me:

  1. Wind noise. It’s really bad, in my opinion. I’ve tried a few fixes, including taking it to the dealer, but nothing has really worked.
  2. Fast charging speed. The charging curve can be frustrating, especially when you’re parked next to an Ioniq 5, and they show up after you but leave before you.

Anyone else experience this?

Sounds like you have a Select or Premium Standard Range model?

Yeah, good point. I have the Premium Standard Range.

I have a Premium Extended Range, and it does hit 160 kW for a short time. The charging curve is definitely better than the Standard Range models.

@Grey
I have a Premium Standard Range (LFP) and it can hold 160 kW for a few minutes at a low state of charge (SoC) if conditions are good. Then it settles to around 120 kW and holds 99–105 kW until about 78%.

@Adonis
Ah, the LFP packs seem to manage 160 kW. The older NCM Standard Range packs max out around 120 kW.

That charging speed is pretty slow. My Standard Range LFP charges faster, but I rarely fast charge, so it’s not a big deal. Regarding wind noise, my Mach-E is way quieter than my old Model 3. Did your dealer perform the TSB fix for the wind noise near the mirrors?

@Blai
Yeah, I took it in for that TSB, but I swear the technicians didn’t actually fix anything.

What part of the country are you in? Curious about costs.

SoCal!

What was the max charging speed? It’s strange if it topped out below 120 kW. I usually get 160 kW for a few minutes if I precondition the battery beforehand.

I have the Standard Range model, so that might explain it.

I’ve heard the charging curve is better in the 2024 models, but I haven’t seen a side-by-side comparison yet.

Is $22 for a full charge typical, or is that a California thing?

It’s pretty standard here, even with a discounted plan. Fast charging in California is very expensive.

Congrats on finding a working EVgo station! In my area, it’s a nightmare. There are two locations within 15 minutes of me, and I’m lucky if two of four stalls are operational. Last night, I waited 15 minutes, but the two working plugs were in use, so I gave up.
