My 10-speed auto skips 2nd and 4th gears. Is this happening to anyone else? Any ideas on how to fix it?
That’s normal. It’s supposed to work like that.

Got it
In drive mode, it’s programmed to skip some gears under light load: 1-3-5-6-8 below 40mph and hits 10th at 45-50. In sport mode, light throttle might go 1-3-4-6-8-10. No idea why Ford programmed it like this. Custom tunes often remove this, so the car uses all gears with more power-focused shifts. Long-term effects? Could be easier on the transmission or wear it faster. Guess we’ll find out.
@Antonio
It’s probably designed to keep the engine at its most efficient RPM range. In normal mode, that means saving gas. In sport mode, it’s keeping the engine ready for more performance.

Got it, thanks.
If you don’t want it to skip gears, just use manual mode.

Don’t you need to be in sport mode with the paddle shifters? Otherwise, doesn’t it switch back to auto if you don’t shift in time?
@Christian
Yes, in sport mode without paddles, it just shifts at higher RPMs automatically. But with the paddles, even in manual mode, it will downshift for you when slowing down. The only manual part is upshifting; it’ll redline if you don’t shift, but it won’t let you stall when stopping.
I think it depends on the mode you’re using.

You mean like normal, sport, track, or drag strip? Or just the difference between auto and manual with the paddles? Because I know it doesn’t skip gears when I use the paddles.
I don’t have a 10-speed, but skipping gears might improve fuel economy.

Yeah, we all know you have a Crown Vic but wish you had a Mustang .

You saw that too? Oh, but hey, it has Apple CarPlay!
@Zhi
Haha, yep! That was me arguing with him .

At least my car has a Mustang engine. Your EcoBoost is just a Camry pretending to be a Mustang.
@Davin
My engine might be half the size of yours, but it has 100 more horsepower and torque .

Calm down, bud. End of the day, he’s got a V8, and you’re driving the ‘muscle car’ without one. How does that even happen?
