2014 or 2017 for Tune + FBO?

I’m about to join the GT community and found two great options with clean titles and low mileage that fit my budget. Question is, which year and engine would handle mods and boost better over time?

S197 is sick, but I really love my S550.

I’m a die-hard S197 fan, especially for the 2011-2014 models. Only reason I’d go with the S550 is for the independent rear suspension.

Yep, that S197 is sick AF! But I love my S550 too.

Check out a used Roush or RTR if you haven’t already. You’d be surprised by the prices! Got my Stage 3 Roush for $32k with 50k miles and opted for the 100k warranty. It saved me $17k in repairs, including a new rear end and transmission.

S197 all the way! I’ll die on this hill (probably because of the lack of independent rear suspension, but still!).

This is the right answer.

Gen 2 is the way to go if you want to add boost.

I agree Gen 2 is more boost-ready right out of the box, but I think people overestimate the boost levels most actually go for. Gen 3 and 4 can handle 800whp, and plenty of people run that.

S550 feels futuristic compared to the S197. Gen 2 motor is much better for adding boost.

Best to test drive both. Personally, I like the 2014 style, but if you’re boosting, go Gen 2 Coyote.

Gen 2 engine is stronger.

My heart says 2014, but my mind says go with the S550 for the independent rear suspension.

Not to mention the interior is way better.

2017 wins in every area, especially handling and interior. The Gen 2 Coyote engine is also more refined. Really, the only reasons to pick the S197 are if it’s more budget-friendly or if you prefer the looks.

That '14 looks amazing, but you’ll probably appreciate the independent rear suspension in the newer model.

S197 is a solid platform, but it’s pushing 20 years old. Go for the '17.

Agreed!

Just sold my '14. Gen 2 is great, and the interior is way better. Exterior still goes to the '14 though.

Gen 2 all the way.

For me, the 2017 is better both inside and out… just my opinion.
