Thinking about upgrading my 2021 AWD to a brand-new 2024. Got a solid deal on it, but wondering if a big price drop is coming or if I should just pull the trigger now.
I know the 2025 model is getting a heat pump, but I live in a cold climate and honestly, heat pumps don’t seem to do much below -10°C anyway. Plus, it’s just more electronics that can break.
Would love to hear from anyone who’s made the switch or has thoughts on whether it’s worth it!
You’ve probably already taken the biggest depreciation hit on your 2021. The 2024s don’t have any major changes from what I’ve seen. I’m keeping my 2023 for as long as possible—it just doesn’t make financial sense to upgrade right now.

Yeah, but you switched to an ER. I’m wondering how much different the AWD SR ‘21 is compared to the AWD SR ‘24.
If you’re going for standard range, the LFP battery is a good call. It’s a simpler chemistry, which means better long-term durability and safety. Less heat, fewer breakdowns. It’s usually listed on the window sticker if you want to check the battery chemistry.
I’d say go for it. The 2021 was the first model year, and honestly, it’s impressive how few issues they’ve had considering it was their first real EV.
That said, every car has planned redundancy—some parts are built to last forever, but smaller components are expected to wear out. You’ve already eaten the biggest depreciation hit, so financially, you’re fine keeping it until the wheels fall off. But if you can afford a new one, there’s nothing like sitting in a fresh car.
Just keep in mind that some materials might feel cheaper, and acceleration might actually feel better in the 2021 model.
Honestly, 285 miles in winter is more than enough for me. I charge at home on 48A every day.
Ford says the heat pump won’t make a huge difference at -20°C. That’s just an average winter day in Canada lol. Plus, we’ve got charging stations everywhere.
