Ken Block's Mustang… thoughts?

Oh, how beautiful. One of the things I love most about cars is the roar of the engine. And this car is specialized in noise. This drift beauty may be old, but grandpa’s power hasn’t aged one bit. It may not be the prettiest, but certainly one of the most powerful when it comes to drifting. My grade is 9.8

RIP Ken Block. Can’t believe he’s gone.

Ken Block’s passing was a huge loss to motorsports. He inspired so many.

TwT I know exactly who this is about. RIP Ken, you’ll always be a legend to me.

Not trying to hate on the Hoonicorn, but here’s my take…

The Hoonicorn is insane for what it was made to do, especially in drag racing. But honestly, I think it could’ve pushed way more power. With turbos that size on a high-revving Roush-Yates engine running on methanol, it should be capable of at least double, if not triple, the power it’s currently putting out.

@Jae
Yeah, but remember, it’s probably tuned down a bit to keep everything from breaking down too quickly. That AWD drivetrain isn’t cheap, even for someone like Ken Block. The car’s full of custom parts, and fixing that kind of stuff isn’t easy.

@Arielle
True, and the Hoonicorn is powered by a Roush-Yates 410 engine with a Sadev sequential transmission, running on VP Racing M1 Methanol with two 67mm Garrett turbos. It’s definitely not built to last forever at full throttle!

@Jae
It’s dialed down to do exactly what it was designed for, though.

@Jae
Controlled power is always better than just more power.

@Jae
Watching it on This vs That, it’s obvious the Hoonicorn had way more power than the suspension could handle. They kept adjusting it, and it dominated every time. I think they tuned it perfectly.

@Jae
Exactly… more power wouldn’t necessarily make it faster. It’s tuned for the traction it has. Even if it had 3000hp, it probably wouldn’t make much of a difference.

@Jae
Fair point. I can see where you’re coming from—some areas could probably be improved.

Sounds like you haven’t drifted in real life, huh?

Uh, okay?
