I’ve got an '03 Mach 1. Would love to get my hands on one of these, even without the classic shaker hood.
Both the Mach 1 HP and the GT350s (especially the GT350R) are just pure love!

The 5.0 in the Mach 1 is all about reliability… no oil consumption issues and it revs to the moon! These engines are built for boost!

Totally agree, but there’s nothing like the 5.2’s sound. The newer 5.2s are pretty solid too after Ford made their tweaks. Oil consumption is just part of having a race-built engine. And even the 5.0s go through oil, which is why catch cans are popular… holding 8+ quarts helps a lot.

Since you track your car, keep an eye on your oil pressure sensor by the cooler/filter. Mine got loose after some high-RPM track days. At least put a witness mark on it so you can check it quickly.

Totally agree. The Mach 1 is race-ready with the Tremec, oil, trans and diff coolers, and bigger radiator. I’ve had mine on the track multiple times, and it really shows what it’s made of. It may be a ‘parts bin’ car since they don’t make the GT350 anymore, but they picked all the right parts. Out of the 13 Mustangs I’ve owned, this is hands down the best S550 in my opinion.

Fair point. The Mach 1 HP is like a GT350 track pack but with the 5.0. But I think Ford should’ve put the TR6060 instead of the 3160—it’s not as strong, and I’m not a fan of the gearing compared to a 3.73.

All HPs with the 6-speed have 3.73 gears, so I feel you on that. I went with boost, so I would’ve preferred the 3.15s instead.

Gotcha, I thought all the Mach 1s had the 3.55. With boost, yeah, you don’t really need the shorter gearing. At least the Tremec has 1:1 in 5th gear, unlike the MT82s.
