I just picked up my 24 rally edition and found out that with the latest updates, Ford shares battery info with Android Auto. My spouse drives a Volvo XC40 Recharge with Android Automotive, and the features like “Battery on arrival” and “Battery on return” are amazing. Plus, the charger route planning in the Volvo is so reliable that I don’t even pre-plan road trips anymore. I was really excited about this for my Mach-E but quickly noticed that Android Auto wasn’t showing battery stats or including charging when planning routes.
I read that not everyone has the update yet, but some were able to get it by visiting a local Ford dealer to get the update done. So I thought I’d do that too! I brought my car in this morning for updates, but it turns out the dealership where I bought it hadn’t updated the car at all. After two hours, I’ve gone through six updates and still have two left before they can even see if I’ll get that battery update or if they’ll need to release it manually.
You need to be careful about assuming updates. You could be up to date with OTA but still way behind with FDRS. A good dealership would update using FDRS without any trouble. But if your dealership isn’t that good, they might say you’re up to date because of OTAs, which isn’t the full picture. Plus, they could charge a lot for updates. Many dealerships just don’t provide good service. If you find a dealer that will update based on FDRS, keep them… but most Mach-E owners probably won’t know what’s really updated unless they have the know-how.

What made you choose the rally edition? Just curious.
Watched a ton of reviews, all of which said that the rally has the most comfortable ride of all the trims, and rally sport drive mode makes it a completely different car. For example, when you engage rally mode the dashboard says traction control is off, but actually it switches the traction control to a mode that detects when you’re trying to drift and will shift power to the rear wheels to help initiate and maintain the drift, then detects when you’re coming out of the drift and shifts power back to the front to help pull you out if it.
I traded my 07 GT in for it so I wanted one that would give me similar levels of fun, and I did love drifting that 07, so it was a natural choice.
Plus the racing stripes and spoiler I think make the car look sooooooo cool
@Keenan
I’ve seen all the reviews and noted it’s the most comfortable ride. It looks stunning! My wife thinks it looks too sporty, but I think it looks fantastic. I’m likely going to buy one this year or early next year.
You’re probably a rare case since you were buying nearly new. Personally, getting FDRS updates has been a hassle. My local dealer won’t do it unless it’s a safety or recall issue. I haven’t managed to get all my updates, and they only did the PCM and ABS because it was labeled as a safety issue after I had to bring it back twice for 1PD failures. They had my car for about 13 days but only worked on it for 30 minutes. It’s really frustrating, and I’m missing a bunch of modules for radio, navigation, and maps.
