Easiest way to open the frunk when your hands are full?

The trunk has a button and even the foot gesture, but is there a convenient way to open the frunk from outside the car without needing to grab the remote? I usually have shopping bags in both hands, so any tips?

You could get a Ford Lightning key fob, program it, and use its frunk button.

OP said they can’t use the remote. That doesn’t really solve the problem here.

Yeah, I already have two keys with frunk buttons. Looking for something more hands-free.

The foot gesture for the trunk was removed in 2023, but you can use the door keypad. Enter your PIN, then press the 7-8 button to open the frunk.

Wait, really? That’s awesome! Saves me from buying another key fob.

Interesting. Any idea why they got rid of the foot gesture?

@Jagger
I think it started as a parts shortage and later became a cost-saving decision.

Also, I’ve heard they sometimes activated during car washes. Not ideal.

Had I known this earlier, I could’ve saved myself a lot of awkward supermarket parking lot moments. Thanks!

When my hands are full, I enter the PIN on the keypad, then press and hold the 7-8 button. Works perfectly for groceries.

You don’t even need to open the door. Just enter your PIN and then press the 7-8 button directly. Here’s a quick guide:

  • PIN + 3/4 = unlock all doors
  • PIN + 5/6 = open the trunk
  • PIN + 7/8 = open the frunk
  • 7/8 + 9/0 together = lock all doors

Unfortunately, you have to use the app or the keypad to open the frunk. No other external options right now.

Maybe in the future, we’ll be able to do it with Siri shortcuts, but for now, the best you can do is lock/unlock the car through the app.

Yeah, I doubt Ford will allow that. They seem pretty restrictive.

Would be nice if they supported Alexa better. FordPass has an Alexa skill, but it’s not documented well. When I tried ‘open frunk,’ Alexa just sent an unlock command instead.
