The 3v 4.6 is pretty solid overall. It doesn’t have as many issues as the 5.4 3v engines.
I’ve got two 3v Mustangs—an automatic with 210k miles and a supercharged 5-speed making 450hp. Both are rock solid. Just stick to the maintenance schedule, and you’ll be fine.

No rod issues at 450hp? I’ve always heard they give out above that.

It’s all about how you drive and where the power comes on. Mine’s got a centrifugal blower, so torque doesn’t hit hard until high RPMs. That helps a lot.
The suspension might need work before the engine. It’s an old car, so keep that in mind.
Engine = good. Auto transmission = bad. Manual = solid.
