Mustang drivers, if you haven’t done Autocross, you’re missing out! These cars have plenty of power, and it’s so useful to learn how to really handle them. Do you know how far you can push without traction control? Can you feel when understeer or oversteer is about to happen? And if someone cuts in front of you, are you confident you can stop or swerve safely?
Autocross is affordable, safe, and a great learning experience. Sure, you might have to pick up a few cones, but trust me, a season’s worth of practice will improve your driving more than you’d imagine. It’s worth it – it might even save lives.
(Just so you know, I’m no professional driver. I started with a Miata before my Mustang and prefer HPDEs to Autocross. But I’m tired of seeing people wreck their Mustangs because they don’t know how to drive them safely. Mustang fam, level up your skills – stay safe and keep those insurance rates down!)
This reminds me of when I was at an event sponsored by Tire Rack. Got all these stickers slapped on my car, but at least they weren’t hard to peel off!

Haha, yeah, Tire Rack has got their name everywhere at those events. It’s pretty much a rolling ad for them!

I swear, sometimes it feels like you get bonus points for taking down cones!
Honestly, the best way to keep safe in a Mustang is to just drive with common sense. I’ve had two Mustangs now, and I stay out of trouble by not pushing it on public roads. And yeah, not giving these to fresh teen drivers would help, too.
@Abraham
Exactly. First gear’s just to get moving, then hit it in second once you’re steady. That’s where folks lose it the most – trying to go hard in first gear.

I feel you. My car’s ‘only’ got 300hp, so not as risky, but I still don’t go full throttle off the line.
I did Autocross once, and wow, it’s an eye-opener! Got me to respect the power when traction control is off. Coming from FWD, it was crazy feeling the back end swing out.

Is there something to protect the paint? Maybe tape?
